This is my hero, MSG James Lauber. He has been my husband for 21 years. Together we have two wonderful children. He served eight years active duty and has been a reservist ever since he separated from active duty in 1994. He is currently serving his first tour in Iraq with the 321st SUS BDE which will fall under the 13th SUS BAT from FT Hood, Texas. He is my best friend and a wonderful father. He is not unlike any other soldier that has deployed in the past or that will in the future, really. He, and they, all have someone at home who is tremendously proud and patriotic cheering them on and praying for their safe return. We just happen to be lucky enough to be his cheering squadron in twelve more months we will be his welcome home committee!!!
This is my hero and my youngest son, Lance Cpl Andrew Skeels. He is serving his first deployment in Afghanistan with the 3/8 Marines out of Camp LeJeune, NC as a mortorman/rifleman. AJ enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of high school and celebrated his one year anniversary on September 4, 2008. He has made me one of the proudest mom's in the world. AJ's been in Afghanistan for about two months now and he is missed very much by all of us. I pray every day that AJ and all our men and women are safe and that they are all able to come home to us soon! Can't wait till my hero gets home. I LOVE YOU SON! -Mom-
My hero and my daughter is PFC Monica Beltre she is 22 years old from Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She loves the snow and right after she left we had a serious “Ice Storm” and she would have loved seeing it. Monica’s unit is stationed in Iraq right now and when unit she comes home next year she will be going back to Fort Hood, Texas. This is her first deployment. She has been in the Army only 6 months before she was sent to Iraq. Her dad and I are very proud of her and cannot wait until she returns home safe. She always has a smile on her face no matter what. She is a very happy person even when she was a baby. We love and miss you very much Monica and cannot wait for your safe return home. Be safe and careful.
Love you, Mom, Dad, Jenny, and Miggy
My Hero's are my two oldest children. Both are in the United States Air Force. My son A1C Gary Nicholas is currently stationed at Shaw AFB in South Carolina. He is an Air Traffic Controller. My daughter AB Courtney Nicholas is currently stationed at Sheppard AFB in Texas. She is currently in tech school for Med Assist. Being a single mom and raising my children alone, I could not be more proud of what my children have become. I was fortunate to have them both home for the holidays this year, most likely the last time we will all be together again for the holidays for some time. They have made me and the rest of the family so very proud. I miss them terribly as does their younger sister. Thank you, Karla Dye Proud Air Force Mom
This is my hero, SGT Mark Messer. He has been in the army for eight years and been deployed to Iraq once and Afghanistan twice. This last deployment was to Afghanistan and it was one of my worst fears to hear that he was injured. Although the news was scary, it ended up being kinda funny to us. He was in transition of coming home and he was walking from the chow hall and was hit in the lower leg with a bullet. Thankfully he is ok and has a scar to remind him of his daily sacrifice. We are currently stationed in Germany with 1-91 Cavalry. I love my soldier dearly and would not change my life for anything. I thank all the fellow military for all their sacrifice as well. I LOVE U MARK, Luv, Kim.

Our hero is my husband Pvt Andrew Newbold. He joined the United States Army Reserves in Oct of 2008 after our oldest son Ryan was diagnosed with the onsets of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. In order to take care of him and provide a better life for all of us- he joined .. We have been married since Aug 2001 and this is the longest time that we have been apart. After his graduating from basic training at the age of 31; he went from Ft Jackson, SC to AIT at Ft Gordon, GA. We have no idea what our future holds but we are so very proud of him. My children talk about how their daddy is a super hero who lives in the Army. It is very hard for young children- ours are 6,5, and 3- but we know the reasoning behind his decisions- his family and his country. We love you very much and THANK YOU! Love and kisses Tracy, Ryan, Katie, and Timmy Newbold St. Louis, MO

This is my Hero and husband of 14 years FTC/SS Tom Belcher, He graduated from Great Lakes in 1996 and completed Basic Enlisted Submarine Training and "A" school in Groton, CT. Our first duty station was at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the USS Topeka for 4 years and went on 3 deployments and then on shore duty after that at Naval Submarine Training Center for 3 years where he was an instructor and got his degree in Small Business Management and his greatest achievement was being promoted to Chief Petty Officer (E-7). Our last duty station was in Groton, CT on board the USS Augusta for 3 years tour, the boat did a change of home port to Norfolk, VA for de-comissioning and so we had to go on shore duty early. We are currently on shore duty at Command Submarine Group Seven. We have been married for 14 years and have two beautiful daughters. He has seen a lot of the world on those deployments. He loves protecting our Country, this is why he is our HERO!!! We love you and thanks for what you do for all of us. Proud Navy Wife Rhonda Belcher Yokosuka, Japan
The first picture is my hero and my brother Eric William Hartman (the bottom of the picture asleep) and Corey Haden Johnson (top of the picture asleep). Eric is my hero because he has been through a lot and i look up to him. I love him a lot and i never get to talk to him or see him. I would give anything for him and would do anything for him. He is the bestest older brother anyone could have. Corey is my hero because though him and my brother don't always get along, i still look up to him and respect what he has been through. Both boys are my life and i love them both a lot.
In the 2nd picture is my cousin Brian Ford. He is my hero because he is a Marine and he lost his mother to cancer back in 2002 and still went into the Marine Corps. I love him a lot too and look up to him a lot too even though I haven't seen him in almost 6-8 years.
My hero is my boyfriend, and future husband, ABH Garred A. Deusa. We have known each other almost 8 years, we dated when we were freshman in high school and on and off since then. I love him with all my heart and I am so proud of all his accomplishments so far. He joined the Navy in April, he hasn’t been deployed yet, but when that day comes I will stand with my head held high and know that he is making the world a better place to live. Right now he is in Virginia and I am in Oregon, It’s really hard, but I know that when you have true love distance doesn’t matter and I cherish every moment we get to talk or see each other more than the time before. He is my sailor, my soulmate, my best friend and my world! I love you hunny! Thank you for everything you do! J
Love always and Forever!

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial, and it is the soldier----who salutes the flag, who serves the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag-----who allows the protester to burn the flag.
Our “Hero” is our oldest son, 2nd Lt. Erik J. Taraba. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 2004 and is currently stationed at Kaneohe Bay Marine Corps Base in Hawaii. He is training for his first deployment to Afghanistan in November as a Rifle Platoon Commander with the 1st Batallion, 3rd Marines. We pray for his safety and the safety of all of our military men and women as they fight for our freedom.
